Star Jones

The birthday girl for March 24 is Star Jones.

Jones is one of two former hosts that abandoned the daytime TV show “The View” because they couldn’t get along with the other co-hosts.  The other is Jones’ fellow Aries, Rosie O’Donnell.

I make a lot of jokes on this blog about how poorly I get along with many Aries individuals.  I have a Capricorn sun, a Cancer moon and a Libra ascendant.  That combination of cardinality makes me the antithesis to the typical Aries native.   Not surprisingly, the head honchos at “The View” are a Libra and a Cancer: respectively, Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie.

People born under cardinal signs don’t go out of their way to dislike each other, although it can be difficult for them to find fault in themselves when things go wrong.  They implicitly believe that they’re following the right path even when they’re on the wrong path.  The problem with Aries natives is that they can rarely be corrected.  They take offense to the notion that there might be another way besides their own.  Both Jones and O’Donnell left “The View” because of their refusal to compromise when two other individuals born under equally strong-willed cardinal signs wouldn’t let them have their own way.

It’s a lesson to all of you born when the sun was in Aries.  You can’t win every battle, especially when you’re outnumbered.  So shut up and do your job before you no longer have a job.

Chris Martin

The birthday boy for March 2 is Chris Martin.

There’s one surefire way in astrology to find out your worst-possible romantic match.  Simply count five signs forward or five signs back.  For a Pisces like Chris Martin, that would make his worst matches Libra or Leo.

While it gets far more complex than that, it’s a starting point for most signs to find out whom they should avoid.  Perhaps Martin’s wife, Libran Gwyneth Paltrow, has other factors in her chart that override the lack of sun-sign harmony with her husband.  They’ve been together a long time, so it’s likely that they do.

Still, the sign five signs away from your own usually means “nothing in common.”  When you’re comparing sun signs, it’s a factor you ought to consider.  Then consider whether or not a Pisces is involved and forget everything you just learned.

Dale Carnegie

The birthday boy for November 24 is Dale Carnegie.

I guess that I shouldn’t be surprised that Carnegie is a Sagittarius.  He was the eternal optimist: a quality that is synonymous with his sun sign.

It would make sense if a grouchy Capricorn like me wrote the book “How to Lose Friends and Alienate People,” but that title was actually used by journalist Toby Young, a Libra’s Libra with both the moon and Mercury sharing his sun sign.  I do have a Libra rising, though.  Perhaps that’s the reason I have no friends.  Or maybe I just need to read Dale Carnegie’s book . . .

Rock Hudson

Scorpios are known for being private to the point of being secretive.  For that reason, it’s no surprise that Rock Hudson was a Scorpio.  It was also not much of a surprise when I discovered that Hudson’s rising sign was Libra.  A Libra ascendant usually produces individuals who don’t want to rock the boat.  Content to live his life in private, Hudson never revealed details of his sexuality to the public.  That behavior was completely in character with his sun-sign/ascendant combination.

Hall & Oates

The birthday boy for October 11 is Daryl Hall.

I’m always taking potshots at Aries natives for not playing well with others.  However, they do play quite well with Libra individuals.  Just a moment ago when I discovered that Daryl Hall is a Libra, I said to myself “I bet John Oates is an Aries!”  Lo and behold, I was correct.

See, astrology really does work!

Russell Hantz

The birthday boy for October 10 is Russell Hantz.

I find it very intriguing that one of the most famous “villains” ever to play the game of “Survivor” has never won the show.  To me, it just goes to show you that Libra natives make terrible villains.  Aries contestants, on the other hand, fare a little better in the role of the villain.  Take Richard Hatch, for example.  He won the show being a jerk who was hated by almost everyone.

After playing the game three times and making it to the finale twice without actually winning, Hantz still maintains that he was one of the greatest players in the history of the show.  Perhaps if he would have shown a few more typically Libran qualities such as diplomacy and class, he would have won.  But he didn’t.  Too bad for him.

John Lennon

The birthday boy for October 9 is John Lennon.

Lennon’s chart is just what you would expect from popular music’s most memorable pacifist.  He has a Libra sun in the sixth house of work and service, and an Aquarius moon in the eleventh house of mass-media and social relationships.  His Aries rising sign could have mitigated the role of “peace” in his life if any planets inhabited the sign.  As it is, the sign is empty, and his first house contains a conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in placid Taurus, not Aries.  Angry Mars also sits in Libra — a very mellow position for the red planet.

There’s not much in Lennon’s chart that makes me wonder if astrology works.  It’s one of those rare instances where everything seems to fit together exactly as it should.

Emily Procter

There comes a time in every woman’s life when she should probably look at the length of her hair to determine if her style is appropriate for her age.  Long hair tends to weigh down a face that’s already being ravaged by both time and gravity.

Nevertheless, today’s birthday girl, Emily Procter, looks pretty hot for forty-four.  Like Gwyneth Paltrow (her fellow Libra), Procter carries her long, straight, Libran hairstyle quite well for her age.  As far as I’m concerned, she should be in no hurry to chop it off.

Simon Cowell

The birthday boy for October 7 is Simon Cowell.

Knowing that the sign of Libra is symbolized by the scales and often pictured as the Roman diety Justitia, it’s no surprise that Judge Judy is a Libra.  Of course, the other richest judge on TV, Simon Cowell, shares her zodiac sign.

Libra natives do like to pass judgement on others.  Getting paid for it is the icing on the cake.

Les Moonves

The birthday boy for October 6 is Les Moonves.

When I realized that Moonves’ birthday is on October 6, I immediately thought of my friend Suzanne who is also born on October 6.  Moonves’ Capricorn wife, Julie Chen, shares my birthday.  My friend Suzanne and I have been accused of behaving like an old, married couple who know each other better than they know themselves.  I’ve never known anyone who could finish my sentences like she does, and vice versa.

According to numerology, there should be a connection between people born on the same day of the month.  The number 6 relates to the planet Venus, beauty and the finer things in life, which both me and my friend Suzanne seem to prize.  Nevertheless, our natal sun positions are almost square to one another.  We probably shouldn’t get along as well as we do.  But there are plenty of other chart factors that can overrule the aspects of the natal sun in a synastry chart.  Moonves and Chen seem to be made for one another, so who am I to tell them that the stars aren’t completely on their side?
