Dianna Agron
The birthday girl for April 30 is Dianna Agron.
I had never looked up Agron’s birthday before until just a moment ago when I stumbled across it. I guess it makes sense that she’s a Taurus because I hated this Giles Deacon dress on her despite the fact that I adored the dress on the runway. It was simply a classic case of the right dress on the wrong girl.
Now I’ve tried to place Deacon’s designs under the microscope before. He’s a Sagittarius, but he almost gives me an Aries vibe with his best work. This dress certainly says “Aries” to me. It would look better on a statuesque woman who doesn’t exude a good-girl image — I could see it looking stunning on an Aries native like Alek Wek, for example. Then again, it was worn on the runway by Deacon’s fellow Sagittarius, model Kate King. Hmmm . . .
Giles, Giles, Giles — what am I going to do with you?
Vincent Gallo
The birthday boy for April 11 is Vincent Gallo.
I shouldn’t be surprised that Gallo is an Aries. The two worst-mannered signs in the zodiac are Aries and Sagittarius. The latter sign can impart its natives with a brusque nature. They’re the sort of people who belch at the dinner table because they think being gassy is funny. The former sign often imparts its natives with bad manners because they blurt out whatever they’re thinking without considering the implications of their words.
Gallo is best-known for having a short, yet very ugly war of words with film critic Roger Ebert. Gallo was outwitted and outclassed before the argument ever began, but that didn’t stop him from firing the first shot.
I can’t stand people who defend their lack of tact by claiming that they “have no filter.” Saying the first rotten thing that comes to your mind every time you open your mouth is rude. Aries natives have to work twice as hard as anyone else in the zodiac to temper their reactions, but it is possible for them to gain control over their own mouths.
Since the episode with Ebert, Gallo hasn’t courted much controversy. Perhaps he learned from his mistake. Yes, even an Aries can figure out how to be less like an Aries.
Benji & Joel Madden
The birthday boys for March 11 are Benji and Joel Madden.
Like the Gemini Olsen twins, the Maddens seem to suit the signature style of their sign. I don’t expect Pisces natives to follow the rules of fashion whatsoever; nothing a Pisces individual does surprises me. However, it is surprising that there are two of them. Pisces is the only sign beside Gemini represented by a dual symbol: two fish swimming in opposite directions, joined by a cord. Here’s a rather wordy, yet perceptive explanation of the two-fish symbol:
The dualism implicit in [Pisces'] symbolism is a weakening principle, because the fishes strain against each other rather than support each other’s motion. This adds an element of vacillation to the way a Piscean thinks and acts, but it also suggests the ability to receive influences from multiple sources which, whilst tending to undermine self-will, gives the capacity for rounded awareness and instinctive understanding of how gain in one area results from loss in another. (source)
“The ability to receive influences from multiple sources” is one of the qualities that defines this sign. I’ve always claimed that Pisces style is “in the mix.” The Maddens mix hard-core elements with more nostaligic items to achieve a look that brings the counter-culture to the mainstream without the deliberate political posturing of a sign like Sagittarius or the ego-driven attention seeking of Aries.
There is an authenticity to the innate dualism of Pisces because — as the passage above indicates — they possess a “rounded awareness and instinctive understanding” of who they are. It’s second nature for them to be themselves by wearing whatever they want and mixing without matching. Matching would require a commitment to the notion of fashion itself that counteracts the “vacillation” that defines this sign.
Kat Von D
The birthday girl for March 8 is Kat Von D.
Just a few posts back I mentioned that the sign of Sagittarius is usually associated with rampant individuality. It’s also closely associated with counter-culture movements. For that reason, one might think that Kat Von D more accurately represents that zodiac sign. But I suppose that she just likes tattoos and the artistry that comes with being a world-famous tattoo designer. It’s likely that it’s as simple as that. She’s a Pisces, after all.
Erin Heatherton
The birthday girl for March 4 is Erin Heatherton.
Heatherton is best known as a model for Victoria’s Secret. While many of the other “Angels” have experienced a great deal of success over the past couple of years breaking into the so-called “high fashion” market, Heatherton hasn’t become a household name. It makes me wonder if there’s an astrological connection to her sense of ambition. Pisces natives aren’t known for their drive, but rather for their lack of desire to pursue the typical pathways to success that most of us follow.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Heatherton didn’t really care for modeling at all, and that she spent her free time writing poetry and baking cookies. While the sign of Sagittarius is often associated with rampant individuality, Pisces natives tend to be the people who truly march to the beat of their own drum, taking life as it comes without the definite plans that most of us seem to make for ourselves.
Trace Cyrus
The birthday boy for February 24 is Trace Cyrus.
Brother of Miley and son of Billy Ray, Trace Cyrus is a perfect example of the Piscean impulse to entirely remove oneself from the fashion system. Of course, the major pitfall of jumping off the bandwagon is that you inevitably find yourself on another one.
That seems to be a fault of Sagittarians, however. Pisces individuals don’t generally have idealistic motives when they start dressing in a counter-culture manner. They usually just do what they want because they don’t feel compelled to keep up with the trends. They possess true freedom from fashion. It is the hallmark of their sign.
Flo-Jo
The birthday girl for December 21 is Florence Griffith-Joyner.
Flo-Jo was one of fashion’s true originals. There has never been anyone else in fashion to compare her to. When I try to come up with examples of Sagittarius natives who have embodied a similar sense of style, I come up with individuals who also could be called “true originals,” like Tina Turner, Bette Midler or Sinead O’Connor.
The great thing about these women is that they have no counterpart in fashion. They’re so far removed from the mainstream of fashion that they’re idolized as fashion icons. Their individuality is celebrated as often as it is reviled or ridiculed. Rather than keeping up with fashion, fashion eventually comes back around to them. Meanwhile, the rest of us are following the trends like sheep.
Of course, there’s an anti-fashion sentiment at the root of signature Sagittarius style. The worst-dressed Sagittarians make anti-fashion their style, jumping on a bandwagon where hideousness is confused with individualism. Women like Flo-Jo don’t make that mistake. They just do what they want and that’s why we remember them.
Lara Stone
The birthday girl for December 20 is Lara Stone.
Off the top of my head, I can think of two other Sagittarian models who have also expanded the industry’s definition of beauty: Stella Tennant and Kristen McMenamy. I fully expect Stone to become a legend in the business like her fellow archers.
At her best, a Sagittarius will make you open your mind to possibilities you had never considered. Seeing a girl as robust as Lara Stone at the top of the modeling business was something I didn’t expect, but now that I know that she’s a Sagittarius, it’s not a surprise, either.
Peter Dundas
Today’s birthday boy is Peter Dundas.
I find it so fascinating that Peter Dundas and Giles Deacon are born just a few days apart. Both men have gone through the revolving door at Ungaro, along with a few other designers. It makes me want know a little more about the chart of the man who owns the company. If anyone can find out Asim Abdullah’s birthday for me, I’d be eternally grateful! I want to know why he can’t get anyone to work for him for more than a couple of seasons.
Or maybe Asim himself could drop me a line. I could tell him who to hire next time — for a price, that is.
Steven Spielberg
The birthday boy for December 18 is Steven Spielberg.
I’ve already mentioned Steven Spielberg’s name in a few other posts since the sun entered Sagittarius. As the guy with the biggest ideas in the film industry, it’s only logical that I refer to him as a paradigm of his zodiac sign.
What strikes me when I look at his natal chart, however, is his Mars in Capricorn in the seventh house out of orb with his descendant. Sagittarians can be quite independant — often to their own detriment. This Mars position allows Spielberg to find power in partnerships in a manner that benefits all parties concerned. He is the ultimate collaborator, and I suppose that his tremendous success has always relied upon his ability to work well with others.
