Are Jumpsuits a Gift from the Heavens?

When “Cosmically Chic” first hit the bookstores, I had the opportunity to do dozens and dozens of interviews with various media outlets around the world.  Over and over again, I was asked what was coming into fashion.  While I could predict some trends, many of them caught me by surprise.

I attributed major movements in fashion to two planets in particular: Jupiter and Saturn.  As I developed my theories, I began to understand how Jupiter was more likely to influence short-term trends while Saturn was more responsible for shifts in style.  Jupiter spends about twelve months in a zodiac sign and Saturn spends about thirty months in a sign.  It only makes sense that these two cosmic giants have a tremendous influence upon the ever-changing world of fashion.

After a few years of watching these planets, and doing some research into how Jupiter and Saturn interacted in the past, I began to see a clearer vision of what the future of fashion held.  But what I didn’t do was invest my time in studying the long retrograde patterns of Saturn.

We’re in one of those patterns right now.  Saturn moved out of Virgo and into Libra last October, then went retrograde and slipped back into Virgo in April.  At the end of this month, the retrograde period will be over, but Saturn won’t return to Libra until July.  As result, jumpsuits have been in fashion.

Now that might seem like ridiculous conclusion, but it’s not.  Virgo is a simplistic sign.  Therefore, dresses and other singular garments have been much more fashionable than separates for the last couple of years.  Virgo rules over onesies, from rompers and overalls to shirt dresses and jumpsuits.  Libra’s signature style is long and lean.  The Libran aesthetic is epitomized by a single color carried from head-to-toe.  So it’s logical that jumpsuits have come into fashion while Saturn dances back and forth between these two signs.

Don’t believe me?  Well then why has Tyra Banks spent this entire cycle of “America’s Next Top Model” clad in jumpsuits?  If you have a better theory, I’d like to hear it.
