Lucille Ball

I keep mentioning the iconic power of Leos, but if the shoe fits . . .

Let me explain myself by contrasting today’s birthday girl, Lucille Ball, with another iconic performer, Dolly Parton.  Lucille Ball became an icon of popular culture by presenting an image of herself that was memorable and distinct, yet an ideal reflection of her personality.  Dolly Parton, on the other hand, became iconic by creating an image.  There is something very calculated about Parton’s persona.  That’s because she’s a Capricorn and she knows that she’s selling a commodity.  She’s as delightful and genuine as celebrities get, but she’s still all business all the time.

Leos aren’t necessarily contrived.  They’re just sort of fabulously themselves.  Lucy’s trademark red hair may have been colored to make her distinct amongst Hollywood’s blondes, but it fit so perfectly that it became her signature look.  In fact, she became the best-known redhead in the history of show business.  She barely had to sell the look because it was instantly her own.  Unlike Parton, who took decades to market her signature look before people stopped criticizing her style, Lucy just dyed her hair and — voila!  She was synonymous with the color.

Now that’s what I call iconic power!
