Claus von Bulow
The birthday boy for August 11 is Claus von Bülow.
I didn’t really pay attention to the trial of von Bülow back in the 80s. However, I did see the 1990 movie “Reversal of Fortune,” for which Jeremy Irons won the Academy Award for Best Actor. If there’s one thing I remember about the film, it’s the scene where Alan Dershowitz (played by Ron Silver) tells von Bülow “You are a very strange man,” to which von Bülow responds with a haughty “You have no idea.”
The essence of Leo can be found in the ego of any Leo individual. While most are gracious and magnanimous, their actions are generally self-serving: they like to have their egos stroked. What they don’t like, however, is when someone they consider to be beneath them has the nerve to profess an affinity with them, or presumes to understand them better than they understand themselves.
As far as I’m concerned, the way that Jeremy Irons delivered the aforementioned line not only won him an Oscar, but it also showed what made von Bülow tick in a way that words alone could never describe. He was the center of his own universe and the rest of us — in his opinion — were just fortunate enough to be invited into his orbit.
