Saturn

It’s the day I’ve been waiting for!

Saturn moves into my first house today.  It’s conjunct my ascendant exactly at 4:15 PM MST.  So what does that mean and why am I so excited?

Astrologers often compare the effect of Saturn in a particular house as a “wet blanket” on the areas of an individual’s life ruled by that particular house.  In one’s natal twelfth house, Saturn can make you feel as if you’re at a loss, just never knowing what to do with yourself.  I can relate!

However, Saturn operates a little differently with Capricorn individuals as it’s their ruling planet.  There is an implicit understanding with most Capricorns that patience is a virtue.  Saturn in the twelfth house provides a Capricorn native with a roughly thirty-month period in which he or she is taught to play the waiting game.  Of course, this time doesn’t have to be spent sitting on the couch doing nothing, curled-up underneath a wet blanket.  I’ve tried to tie up loose ends and drop bad habits while I’ve plodded away, gradually moving toward another thirty-month period of genuine growth.

Saturn in the first house can be a terribly oppressive for individuals who thrive on instant gratification, particulary Aries natives.  Capricorns, on the other hand, appreciate the slow and steady improvement that Saturn affords them.  The rewards of my seemingly futile efforts over the past couple of years should quickly become evident.  The old adage “every cloud has a silver lining” can describe the effect of Saturn’s conjunction to my ascendant.  It can also become a recurring theme for the new phase I’m about to enter.

I’m optimistic about this!  Pessimism can be the result of this transit for those who don’t “feel” Saturn like I do, but it’s in my nature to enjoy this pace.  I’m looking forward to a couple of glorious years!

Stephen King

I had never looked up the birthday of author Stephen King until just a minute ago.  I was already surprised to discover that today’s birthday boy is a Virgo because I find his work to be a little too wordy, but I was even more surprised to discover that he has Mercury in Libra and a Cancer rising sign.  However, his Cancer rising is at 29°52″.  An inaccurate recording of his birthtime (an estimate) could mean that his rising sign is Leo.  That would make so much more sense to me because he obviously takes a quantity-over-quality approach to his work.

I believe that King is one of the greatest storytellers of our time.  It’s just the way he gets to the story that drives me crazy.  I’d expect that from someone with a Leo rising.  Why say one word when you can say a hundred?

Sophia Loren

The birthday girl for September 20 is Sophia Loren.

I’ve mentioned Sophia Loren so many times as an example of textbook Virgo style, that I’m not even going to bother to explain myself again.  I’m finally catching up on these posts and I don’t want lose momentum.  Now that’s an economical Capricorn for you!

Alison Sweeney

The birthday girl for September 19 is Alison Sweeney.

Here and there, I’ve caught a little of Sweeney on “Days of Our Lives” for years and years.  I’ve also seen her hosting “The Biggest Loser.”  What always strikes me as amazing is how well Sweeney’s hair can hold a complex style.  It really doesn’t look as if it should be so easy to style, but I suppose a Sweeney is an ideal client for a stylist — just as long as she’s getting paid.  She’s probably not nearly as patient and professional when she’s having the work done on her own dime.  Virgos can be so picky!

Jada Pinkett Smith

The birthday girl for September 19 is Jada Pinkett Smith.

Offhand, I can’t recall a single Jada Pinkett Smith movie or television show.  I did, however, see her home in a recent issue of “Architectural Digest.”  Although she’s married to a Libran, there was not a lot of balance in the way her home was decorated: it was pure Virgo style all the way!

There’s an organic, earthy, Zen quality to the Virgo decorating aesthetic.  Pinkett’s home was a textbook example of Virgo style without a hint of the Libra aesthetic.  It makes it quite apparent who wears that pants in that family!

Cassandra Peterson

The birthday girl for September 17 is Cassandra Peterson.

Also known as Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, Peterson is remarkably well-preserved for her age.  While I was looking for a photo of the performer, it occurred to me that she shares her sign with Sophia Loren and Raquel Welch.  Is there something in the stars that allows large-breasted Virgo women to age more gracefully than their less-endowed counterparts?  Probably.  I just don’t know what it is yet.  I’ll let you know when I determine what it is.

Alexis Bledel

The birthday girl for September 16 is Alexis Bledel.

I’ll admit to watching “The Gilmore Girls” a couple of times, but I won’t admit to liking it.  However, I will acknowledge that the two principal actresses on the show, Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, had great chemistry together.  Well, of course they did!  They’re a Pisces and a Virgo in real life!

I can think of hundreds of examples of great screen couples who possess opposite zodiac signs.  There’s Brad and Angelina (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith” is the only Angelina Jolie film I’ve ever liked), Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint, Julia Roberts and George Clooney — I could go on all day.  But I won’t because I’m already a few days behind.  I’ve gotta catch up, so that’s enough about Alexis Bledel!
