The birthday boy for March 9 is Martin Fry.
Fry was the lead singer for ABC, a band whose album “The Lexicon of Love” was one of my favorite records of the 1980s. Wikipedia describes it as “a concept album in which the singer experiences heartache as he tries and fails to have a meaningful relationship.”
The was something so remarkably pompous about the record that I adored it from the moment I saw the cover. While I normally wouldn’t associate the sign of Pisces with pomposity, I would associate the sign with any creative project that is “themed” in such a manner as to make its success entirely dependant upon the execution of that theme.
I also associate fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier with the sign of Pisces because of his ability to work with themes without making his clothes look like costumes. Martin Fry made a concept album that never succumbed to its own grandiosity because the music was as fully-realized as the concept itself.
The way a Pisces individual can work with themes in this manner is fascinating. No one does it better.
