Today’s birthday girl is Lea Michele.
Michele’s annoyingly-earnest character on “Glee” could be a Virgo. She’s a perfectionist. She’s neurotic. She sees something completely different from the rest of us when she looks in a mirror. Nevertheless, that character doesn’t even hold a candle to the actress’ red-carpet persona.
I always laugh my head off when Joan Rivers makes fun of Lea Michele on the “Fashion Police.” I don’t believe that Michele ever looks bad on the red carpet, but she overthinks everything from her hair and makeup to her wardrobe and her posing. The result is so contrived as to become comical — at least when Joan mocks it, it’s funny.
Michele needs to stop trying so hard to be perfect. Asking her to do that, though, is like asking the sun not to shine, or like asking Rachel on “Glee” to stop being so annoying. It probably isn’t going to happen.
The birthday boy for August 28 is Andrej Pejic.
Each zodiac sign is either masculine or feminine. Within those definitions there are more-masculine signs and less-masculine signs, as well as more-feminine signs and less-feminine signs. The planets also have genders. Virgo is a feminine sign ruled by the hermaphroditic planet Mercury.
That doesn’t predispose a Virgo individual to feminine or hermaphroditic behavior. What can often happen with Virgos, though, is that their cosmic composition can lend them a rather sexless quality. Virgo is considered to be a “barren” sign: rather sexless in its nature.
I can think of hundreds of Virgos off the top of my head who are the opposite of sexless. Still, it’s not surprising to me that the most “genderless” model in the history of the fashion business is a Virgo. Andrej Pejic plays both sides of the fence beautfully, but to me he comes off as lacking sex appeal in either case.
I wonder if I’m the only one who feels this way? Perhaps there’s something in my stars that makes me feel this way rather than something in his. It’s something I need to think about.
The birthday boy for August 27 is Daryl Dragon.
I hadn’t bothered to look up the “Captain’s” sign before. I’m not really sure what to make of it. The only other person in show business I recall who wears captain hats is Carol Channing, and she’s an Aquarius.
This is something I’m going to need to look into before I write my next book.
The birthday boy for August 26 is Chris Pine.
I thought that Pine did a fine job in “Star Trek,” although I didn’t like the film nearly as much as I thought I would. I’ve always been a big “Star Trek” fan, but I haven’t been nearly as excited by the projects of J. J. Abrams, the film’s director. I find a distinct lack of “joy” in his projects. Believe me, I enjoy the “menace” within his best work, but I believe that he can get himself lost in the storyline, like a Hitchcock wannabe without Hitchcock’s delightful sense of self-awareness. It can be exhausting for the viewer.
That’s not Pine’s fault, though. He’s a decent journeyman-type actor. As I mention over and over again, Virgo natives make terrific employees. His portrayal of Captain James T. Kirk was probably the performance Abrams wanted to see. I can’t blame him for that.
The birthday girl for August 25 is Blake Lively.
In my book I assign the label Chanel to Gemini. To me, Chanel represents the youthful spirit of fashion whether it is being worn by an eight-year-old or an eighty-year-old. For years, however, the label has been designed by fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld. Lagerfeld is a Virgo.
I maintain that Virgos make the best employees. Perhaps that’s why Lagerfeld’s work for both Chanel and Fendi seems to overshadow his signature line. It’s funny, though, that Lagerfeld has chosen a Virgo muse in Blake Lively. I’ve heard Lagerfeld discussing astrology. He’s probably discussed it with Lively. Birds of a feather stick together, even when they’re wearing the feathers of another sign.
The birthday girl for August 24 is Marlee Matlin.
It just occurred to me while looking up Matlin’s birthday that three of the five runner-ups on the “Celebrity Apprentice” have been Virgo natives.
Does this mean that Donald Trump hate Virgos? Apparently it does . . .
The birthday girl for August 23 is Barbara Eden.
Last year on this day I wrote about punching up Shelly Long’s natal chart only discover that she is a Leo and not a Virgo as I had assumed. I assumed that Barbara Eden is a Leo, too, and this time I was right.
I can’t imagine that the woman who found fame as a genie in the sitcom “I Dream of Jeannie” was anything but a Leo. Of course, the straight man on the show was Larry Hagman who played Jeannie’s husband. He’s a Virgo! That makes sense, right?
