Pete Wentz

The birthday boy for June 5 is Pete Wentz.

I don’t expect a Gemini native to have a particular style, but I do expect that most Gemini natives have a style.  It could be all over the map, but it’s all over the map all the time.  There’s something flighty and Mercurial about the best-dressed Gemini individuals that sets them apart from the pack, making them some of the most stylish individuals in the zodiac.

Guyliner aficionado Pete Wentz has a distinct sense of style.  It may seem cliche in 2012, but ten years ago he was doing things that no one else was really doing.  You see that a lot in Gemini natives: they seem to set the trends.  I often refer to Gemini as the trendiest sign of the zodiac for that reason — only they lead rather than follow.

I can think of a few fashion oddballs that share Wentz’s sign, including Prince, Boy George and Johnny Depp.  Each of these celebrities was able to influence mainstream fashion with their sense of style.  But like the sign of Gemini itself, their influence was often fleeting.  From a style perspective, each of them continued to evolve, but they’ll all be remembered for the moment that fashion tried to catch up to them while they were doing their own thing.  That’s why I view them as the trendsetters of the zodiac.

Russell Brand

The birthday boy for June 4 is Russell Brand.

A zodiac sign has more in common with the sign that opposes it than with the signs that flank it or the signs that flank the sign that opposes it.  Gemini, for instance, has nothing in common with with Taurus and Cancer, and even less in common with Scorpio and Capricorn.  It does, however, share the same polarity as Sagittarius.  At least it’s something!

Actually, I do find individuals born under these sun signs to be tremendously different in theory, yet more similar in practice than most people realize.  Both signs endow their natives with an outgoing nature.  Geminis tend to be more superficial, though, and Sagittarians are reputed to be deep.  That’s why I often describe Gemini natives as having a what-you-see-is-what-you-get quality.

I see that quality in Russell Brand.  He doesn’t really try to hide behind a contrived public persona.  And I can cite dozens of Gemini celebrities that allow the public to really know who they are.  I don’t see the same thing with Sagittarius celebrities.  In fact, I often see them perpetuating a public image that is patently false as they attempt to appeal to a broader fan base.  I don’t believe that Russell Brand cares all that much if you like him or not.  That’s sort of the Gemini way!

Raoul Dufy

Raoul Dufy

The birthday boy for June 3 is Raoul Dufy.

I find it interesting when an artist’s work represents the spirit of their sun sign.  Just a moment ago I discovered that Raoul Dufy was a Gemini.  Although a Capricorn, Henri Matisse, is usually associated with Fauvism, his contributions to modern art styles are more comprehensive and more varied.  Dufy, on the other hand, worked with a quick hand in the bright colors that I associate with Gemini.  Most of his work can be described as Fauvism.

What has always intrigued me about Dufy is how much the backgrounds of some classic Warner Bros. cartoons drew upon his influence.  You just have to watch old Pepé Le Pew cartoons to see what I mean.  Does that mean that Pepé Le Pew is a Gemini, too?  Actually, he’s a Capricorn, too.  I share his birthday!

Charlie Watts

Today’s birthday boy is Charlie Watts.

It delights me to no end to know that today is Charlie Watts’ seventieth birthday.  I often describe Gemini natives as “the big kids of the zodiac.”  Now what big kid doesn’t want to be a septuagenarian rock star?

Dayana Mendoza

The birthday girl for June 1 is Dayana Mendoza.

I enjoyed watching Dayana Mendoza on “The Celebrity Apprentice.”  I wasn’t at all surprised that she made it far into the competition because she shares her sun sign with the Mercurial Donald Trump.  Trump even crowned another fellow Gemini, Joan Rivers, as his apprentice a couple of seasons back.

Sure, she drove a few of her competitors crazy — what Gemini wouldn’t? — but she was very entertaining.  And who wouldn’t want to look at her all day long?

Archie Panjabi

The birthday girl for May 31 is Archie Panjabi.

I’m starting to think that there was an astrologer present at the casting sessions for “The Good Wife.”  First Matt Czuchry, now Archie Panjabi . . .

What makes Panjabi’s character so interesting on the show is that it’s difficult for both the other characters and the audience itself to get a grip on Kalinda Sharma’s motivations.  If there’s anything that distinguishes a Gemini, it’s that.  Their motives change on a dime, so they can be impossible to read.

Panjabi plays my favorite character on any scripted television show.  I should give kudos to the actress for putting on such a compelling performance.  Now that I know she’s a Gemini, however, I’m not sure if the role is such a stretch for her.

Howard Hawks

The birthday boy for May 30 is Howard Hawks.

I’ve never really thought about it before, but I associate Hawks with two films: the screwball comedy “Bringing Up Baby” and the Marilyn Monroe classic “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.”  The former film has a sort of ADD quality to it that makes it seem like a Gemini film, delightfully flitting from screwball scene to screwball scene.  The latter film stars the most iconic Gemini actress in the history of cinema.

Hawks, however, didn’t work in a single genre.  In fact, there are very few directors who worked successfully in as many genres as Hawks.  Yes, Gemini can be the ADD sign, but their lack of a focus can also become one of their greatest strengths.  Hawks is proof of that.  Besides Sagittarius native Steven Spielberg, I can’t name another film director who has a wider repertoire than Hawks.  And while Sagittarians thrive on expanding their horizons, Geminis just can’t stay in one place for too long.  It all makes sense, doesn’t it?
