Anita Ekberg
Hot on the heels of my post about Naomi Watts looking terrific with her Rita Hayworth hairdo, I discover that Anita Ekberg is also a Libra.
This still photo from “La Dolce Vita” is certainly the most-iconic image of Ekberg ever taken. Seeing that high-maintenance, bombshell coif makes me even more confident in my assertion that Libra is the “high-maintenance” sign. While I know tons of lazy Libras who would never, ever take the time to make their hair look like this, I know just as many who have made getting dolled-up their schtick. This is definitely the signature style for the sign.
Naomi Watts
The birthday girl for September 28 is Naomi Watts.
Just the other day I came across an online slideshow of the iconic images associated with Thierry Mugler’s fragrace “Angel,” including this photo of Naomi Watts. What’s interesting to me is that I often use Rita Hayworth in “Gilda” as an icon of signature Libra style. Now that I look at it, this ad reminds me of many classic images of Rita Hayworth. It’s the hair!
While this isn’t the hairstyle that Naomi Watts walks around in every day, it certainly does suit her. I don’t believe that she’s ever looked better.
Meat Loaf
The birthday boy for September 27 is Meat Loaf.
I was sort of surprised to discover that Meat Loaf is a Libra after watching him on the “Celebrity Apprentice.” He really wears his heart on his sleeve, and that’s something I don’t expect to see from most Libra natives.
However, I did punch up his chart a moment ago to learn that he has a first-house Pisces moon. That explains everything, especially the vacillation between rational and irrational behavior to deal with stress. I don’t know if he’s ever had to deal with any addiction issues, but he’s lucky if he hasn’t resorted to that manner of “coping mechanisms” within his lifetime. The potential to take the easy way out is certainly in his chart.
Melissa Sue Anderson
Today’s birthday girl is Melissa Sue Anderson.
I’ve never compared the signs of the cast of “Little House on the Prairie” before, but I was laughing out loud when I did. Anderson, the pretty, passive Ingalls sister is a Libra. Melissa Gilbert, the plucky, earthy girl is a Taurus. And Alison Arngrim, the one who played the bad-to-the-bone Nellie Oleson is a Capricorn, just like me!
See, astrology really does work!
Michael Douglas
Today’s birthday boy is Michael Douglas.
Douglas is married to Catherine Zeta-Jones. It’s her birthday today, too. I wouldn’t normally suggest that two Libras hook up, but it seems to work for this power couple. I don’t believe that it would have worked, however, if they weren’t successful already when they first got together.
I talk about Libran laziness a lot. Anyone in the zodiac can be lazy — I know that. But there’s an innate complacency that defines this sign. A Libra native can stay in a bad situation forever. Still, if one of these Hollywood icons was not as successful as the other, I don’t believe that they would have stayed together. Famewise, there’s a balance between them that has made everything work out for the best.
I wonder if there are any other celebrity couples who share a birthday?

I often get a week behind on this blog. It’s not that I don’t like writing it, but that I’ve got a million other things to do. I have a problem saying “NO!” when it comes to taking on added responsibilities. For that reason, I’m three weeks behind and I don’t think I’m going to bother catching up. Sorry!
Instead, I’m just going to jump right into today’s birthday. And I’m also going to try to dedicate a little more time to my part-time career as an astrology writer. It’s good for me to keep my head in the game and that’s what this blog allows me to accomplish. There was a time in my life when I actually made a decent living as an astrologer. I’d like that to happen again, but’s not going to happen if I give all my time away to people who would never do the same for me.
Saturn is about to leave Libra where it has resided for the past two-and-a-half years. Libra is my solar tenth house, ruling over my career. I guess I can say that writing this blog (and my other blog) has taught me something about my work ethic. I can actually sit down and write every day with relative ease; writing never seems like a chore to me. In fact, I look forward to the couple of hours I get to write every morning. With Saturn about to move into my eleventh house of mass-appeal on October 5, perhaps it’s time to look into finding an audience for my random musings.
So I’m going to back to this blog. Hopefully I won’t neglect it any more. It’s good for me to meditate on astrology every day. It’s how I wrote my last book, and it’s how I’m going to write my next book.
Blackie Lawless
The birthday boy for September 4 is Blackie Lawless.
Hot on the heels of posting that Whitey Bulger has an appropriate name for a Virgo, I discover that Blackie Lawless is a Virgo, too! There goes that theory. Oh well! If it really worked, Goldie Hawn would be a Leo and Red Buttons would be an Aries . . .
Whitey Bulger
The birthday boy for September 3 is Whitey Bulger.
In my book I claim that white is the signature Virgo color. So it should be no surprise that Whitey Bulger is a Virgo, right? Right?
Shauna Sand
The birthday girl for September 2 is Shauna Sand.
The two things that I mention the most about Virgos is that A) they are blind to their own faults and B) they are prone to addiction and/or sleeping disorders because their minds just don’t shut down. I may be perpetuating sun-sign cliches, but if you knew the Virgos that I’ve known . . .
Anyway, Shauna Sand is sort of ridiculous looking. More than anything else, she’s known for dressing like a whore. I did read that she had appeared on “Celebrity Rehab” so I tried to find out why. Googling it really produced nothing for me. If someone who has watched the show and knows why she was in rehab and what she accomplished, I’d really like to know. Was she really addicted to something other than publicity? Drop me a line in the comments section.
Padma Lakshmi
The birthday girl for September 1 is Padma Lakshmi.
I’m a big fan of the so-bad-it’s-good film “Glitter,” starring Padma Lakshmi as “Sylk.” Like everyone else in the film, she gives a horrible performance. Strangely, it’s described as “comedic” on Wikipedia, as if someone in her inner circle has edited the page to confirm that Lakshmi was in on the joke. I don’t believe that she was.
Virgo is a cerebral sign. Perhaps it’s necessary for someone as smart as Lakshmi to rationalize a bad career move in this fashion rather than just admitting that she made a terrible mistake. Knowing the Virgos I’ve known, it wouldn’t surprise me if she did just that.
