Tila Tequila

The birthday girl for October 24 is Tila Tequila.

I once had the idea to write a book about the clichés that sun-sign astrologers like me spread around.  It was going to be called “Virgos are Prudes, Scorpios are Sluts.”  I wanted to call it that title because I actually believe that those signs endow natives with the opposite characteristics.  For every “virgin” allusion I’ve ever read about the sign of Virgo, I know of an actual Virgo who behaves like a slut (for lack of a better word).  And for every description I’ve read of Scorpio natives who are “passionate” lovers, I know one in real life who is as cold as ice.

That’s the problem with sun-sign astrology: it’s vague and too general.  Unfortunately, if you want to make money as an astrologer, you have to put up with the conventions of the business, and that includes perpetuating the clichés.  I try to cope with this dilemma by having fun with the stereotypes.

That brings me to Tila Tequila.  As I just mentioned, I don’t believe that Scorpio natives normally fit the “slut” bill.  So I looked up her chart and her moon is in Virgo.  One of the jokes I’ve been telling for years is that Virgo natives really are prudes until they’ve got a drink or two in them.  I suppose that a Virgo moon would endow an individual with a similar modus operandi.  With Mars in Virgo, too, she strikes me as someone who would become quite emotionally desperate and needy when her guard is down.

Now I kind of wish that I had watched her show so I would have a better idea if I’m right about her.

Cat Deeley

The birthday girl for October 23 is Cat Deeley.

Deeley was born on a day when the sun moved from Libra into Scorpio around midday.  The moon also changed signs early in the morning on the same day, also from Libra to Scorpio.  Without an exact time of birth, I’m not sure if she’s a Libran with a Libra moon, a Libran with a Scorpio moon or a Scorpio with a Scorpio moon.

If I had to guess, I’d put her birth time early in the morning.  To me, she seems like a patient, well-mannered, even-tempered Libra native.  I could be entirely wrong, though.  Last year on this same day, I attempted to guess Nancy Grace’s planetary placements and I was wrong.  That’s what you get for putting your reputation on the line!

Spike Jonze

Today’s birthday boy is Spike Jonze.

Adaptation” is one of my favorite films of all time.  It’s also one of the most “meta” films ever produced (I kind of hate that pretentious word but it’s the one that describes exactly what I’m trying to say).  It makes sense that it was directed by a man who not only changed his name, but also a man with a Libra sun sign.

As I’m wrapping up this section of Libra profiles and getting ready to move on to another sign, I feel as if I understand the sign of Libra with its artificial gloss in a way that I’ve never understood it before.  Having admitted that, I’m interested in seeing what Spike Jonze is capable of producing now that he’s writing his next film without the help of Charlie Kaufman.  Kaufman not only wrote “Adaptation,” but also “Being John Malkovich,” another film directed by Jonze.  Kaufman is a Scorpio.

Will Jonze be able to create a film without the Scorpionic depth that Kaufman brought to their collaborations?  Only time will tell.

Kim Kardashian

The birthday girl for October 21 is Kim Kardashian.

The more I write about Libra, the more I discover myself describing the sign as possessing a high level of artifice.  I don’t mean to disparage Libra natives (especially since my own rising sign is Libra), but it’s just the way I see things.  There are a lot of fake-looking natives in the world.  This ain’t the “au naturel” sign.

On that note, Kim Kardashian is a Libra . . .

Snoop Dogg

The birthday boy for October 20 is Snoop Dogg.

It’s funny that I just lambasted Eminem a few post back for appearing inauthentic to me.  On the other hand, there’s his fellow Libra, Snoop Dogg.  He’s about as authentic as it gets.

I punched up his chart.  He’s not only got an earthy, Venus-ruled Taurus rising sign, but also four planets in the Libra-ruled seventh house, including the moon, Mercury, Venus and Neptune.  That not only explains his fondness for sensory pleasures (ie: drugs), but also his laid-back rapping style.

He recently changed his name to Snoop Lion.  With nothing in his chart in Leo, I don’t believe the name change is here to stay.  However, I do believe that he’s going to continue to work for a long time.  There’s a sense of innate charm in his chart that’s going to keep him in the public eye until he decides that he no longer wants to be there.

Ty Pennington

The birthday boy for October 19 is Ty Pennington.

Ty Pennington intrigues me because we share one thing in common.  I’m a Jack-of-all-trades type, too.  Of course, I have a Libra rising sign, and that made me wonder if there’s anything else in my chart that I share with the TV host/actor/model/set designer/your profession here.  So I punched up his chart.

What I found were three particular things that we have in common.  A couple of them were generational aspects that I would have shared with anyone else who has a birthday so close to my own.  The other, however, was a close conjunction of Venus and Mars.  I’m going to have to look into that aspect because most astrology writers usually harp about the sexual aspects of the configuration.

Does that aspect in my birth chart have something to do with my ability to be good at almost everything I do?  Perhaps it does.  I’m going to look into it!

Freja Beha Erichsen

The birthday girl for October 18 is Freja Beha Erichsen.

As one of the most successful models in the world at the moment, Freja has a made a niche for herself in the market at the “androgynous” girl.  While the sign of Libra is ruled by Venus, the most feminine planet, it has a masculine polarity.  For that reason, I don’t encourage Libra women to go over the top with an overtly feminine appearance.  Nevertheless, because of the Venusian influence, the sign is highly refined.  Even a Libran androgyne is going to pull off a high-maintenance look well.

Freja is one of those models that some photographers will use in a gender-bending manner, but far more of them use her because her face will take a ton of makeup.  Often that’s the difference between a “pretty” girl who turns heads when she walks down the street and a “handsome” girl who can make a living as a model.  Freja, like many other Libra women, fits into the latter category.  She could fall face-first into her makeup bag and somehow come out looking all the better for it.  That’s the Libra way!

Eminem

The birthday boy for October 17 is Eminem.

I don’t really get a Libra vibe from Eminem.  He does, however, have an Aquarius moon.  In combination, the two factors support a rather contrived public persona.  Of course, he has had his greatest success recording as a persona named “Slim Shady.”  When he’s performing more autobiographical material he seems quite unauthentic to me.  In fact, he’s been to court several times to defend the passive/aggressive insults he includes in his tracks.

Many Libra natives talk a big game, but they just won’t say what they mean to your face.  I get the feeling that many of Eminem’s legal battles have to do with his inability to deal with his issues in an upfront manner.  That’s just not the way that most Librans operate.

Rachel Reilly

The birthday girl for October 16 is Rachel Reilly.

I’m a huge “Big Brother” fan.  I watch the American version of the show religiously and I even auditioned for the upcoming Canadian version.  I’d like to see an astrologer like me in the house, although I doubt that I’d reveal my profession to the other houseguests.  Anyway — back to Rachel.  I was surprised to learn that she has a Libra sun, but I wasn’t surprised at all when I looked up her chart and discovered that she has a Cancer moon.

I don’t believe that a Cancer moon makes an individual particularly sensitive.  It does make them unusually defensive and rather manipulative.  In combination with a passive/aggressive Libra sun and heavy planetary influences from both Capricorn and Scorpio, Reilly is a manipulative power player.  It’s a good chart for someone who plays a dirty game.

I’d be very interested to see where Reilly’s rising sign fits into all of this.  Rachel, if you’re reading this, drop me a line!  I need to know what time you were born.

Tanya Roberts

Today’s birthday girl is Tanya Roberts.

While I was looking for a recent photo of Tanya Roberts, it struck me that she’s always worn a faceful of makeup, just like a lot of Libra women I’ve profiled in the past.  In fact, she reminds me a lot of Heather Locklear, another Libra native who always seems to err on the side of overdone.  I adore Heather Locklear, but she can be a little too “overprocessed.”

I saw one older photo of Roberts with barely any makeup on and she looked great.  I may encourage Libra women to embrace the “high-maintenance” style that defines their sign, but there’s got to be a balance between looking like a woman who uses all the tools at her disposal and a woman who hides behind a mask of makeup.
