Sharon Needles

Today’s birthday girl is Sharon Needles.

I was rooting for Sharon on “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”  I was sort of surprised to discover that her sun sign is Sagittarius.  I was sort of expecting either a heavy dose of Scorpio or Capricorn.  So I looked up her natal chart . . .

What I got was a whole bunch of nothing because Needles was born on a day where a few planets switched signs.  Without an accurate birth time, I can’t say anything without sticking my foot in my mouth.  It’s too bad.  I really wanted to get a look into the astrological makeup of this intriguing performer.

Sharon Needles, call me!

Bill Nye

The birthday boy for November 27 is Bill Nye.

Sagittarius is traditionally associated with higher education.  What’s interesting is that I can think of many Sagittarius performers whose careers lead them into the role of educators.  For that reason, I’m not that surprised that Bill Nye actually began his career as “Bill Nye: The Science Guy” on a sketch comedy show rather than in a classroom.

I use the word “wanderlust” to describe the modus operandi of most Sagittarius natives.  Nye wanted to be an astronaut, yet ended up doing comedy and somehow wandered into the role of one of North America’s most well-known educators.  I suppose that’s a typical Sagittarius career path!

Rita Ora

The birthday girl for November 26 is Rita Ora.

Ora isn’t that well-known in North America yet, but I suspect that she’ll hit it big over here sometime soon.  Like so many girls and young women who have ruled the pop charts (Britney; X-Tina; Miley Cyrus; Taylor Swift; Nicki Minaj), Ora is a Sagittarius.

In my previous post I mentioned that there are not only plenty of Sagittarius “pop tarts,” but also plenty of “dumb blondes.”  As both a fashion critic and an astrologer, I wish that Rita Ora would choose to belong to the former category instead of the latter.  Gawd, I hate her hair!  I saw a photo of her with brown hair and she looked gorgeous. I don’t know if there’s anyone else in the spotlight at the moment whom I’m more eager to see get a makeover.

Normally, I’m all for Sagittarius women exploring all of their beauty options; sticking with one look can be quite boring for someone who suffers from the fashion equivalent of wanderlust.  This is one look, however, that I just can’t encourage.  I actually didn’t mind Britney with a bald head.  I kind of adore Miley Cyrus with her blonde buzz cut.  I gushed over X-Tina when she was doing that retro 40s thing with her hair and I can sort of excuse her for the dip-dye phase she’s in today.  But this?  It’s the biggest fashion crime of 2012.  I couldn’t hate it more!

Christina Applegate

The birthday girl for November 25 is Christina Applegate.

I’ve profiled several Sagittarius “pop tarts” since I began writing this blog, and at least as many “dumb blondes.”  It’s funny that there are so many examples of women who fit beautifully into each category.  It kind of makes you wonder why, right?

Sagittarians just see opportunity and act upon it.  They’ll take a risk that others might not take, like being typecast forever after accepting a role like Kelly Bundy on “Married with Children.”  Applegate has worked consistently since the show that made her a star ended in 1997, but she’s never really recreated the magic of “Married with Children.”

I suppose that most Sagittarius natives grow into a desire to be taken seriously.  They can often derail their careers trying to escape from under the shadow of the huge accomplishments of their youth.  It can be both a blessing and a curse, depending upon how seriously they take themselves.  I suppose that Applegate is still working because she hasn’t turned her back on comedy.  Hopefully, she never will.

Lucky Luciano

The birthday boy for November 24 is Lucky Luciano.

Wikipedia claims that mobster Salvatore Luciano’s nickname “Lucky” does not have a clear origin.  To me, it’s interesting that the only person I recall with this nickname (besides a character from “General Hospital“) is a Sagittarius because I associate the sign with dumb luck.  If I had to rank a list of celebrities who I consider to be more famous than talented, I’d probably find an awful lot of Sagittarians near the top of the list.

Not all of them are lucky, but plenty of them are — otherwise the world never would have heard of them at all.  If you don’t believe me, just scroll through the Sagittarians I’ve discussed over the past couple of years.  You’ll see!

Bruce Vilanch

The birthday boy for November 23 is Bruce Vilanch.

Just a moment ago I was looking through my previous posts to see who else I’ve profiled on this day.  I discovered that Vilanch shares his birthday with both Miley Cyrus and Snooki.  That makes me believe that if there’s anything to this fashion astrology thing, that maybe both of these young celebrities will eventually grow up to resemble Bruce Vilanch.  For the sake of comic relief, I hope that they do!

When I think about, I’ve seen a lot Sagittarius natives become caricatures of their former selves as they age.  It’s the excess associated with this sign that does it: too much booze, too many cigarettes, too much food, etc.  Oh well.  Someone needs to grow old ungracefully, and it’s not going to be a Capricorn like me!

Scarlett Johansson

Today’s birthday girl is Scarlett Johansson.

Last year on this day I published a post speculating over Jamie Lee Curtis‘ astrological makeup.  She was born on a day when the sun regulary switches signs so I guessed that she was a Scorpio.  She turned out to be a Scorpio with a Sagittarius rising.  Scarlett Johansson, on the other hand, is a Sagittarius with a Scorpio rising.

The funny thing is that Johansson gave me Jamie Lee Curtis vibes early in her career, especially in “Ghost World” and “Lost in Translation.”  As she’s become more famous, her cool-as-a-cucumber persona has been replaced by something more fiery and robustly sexy; she’s become more comfortable wearing the qualities of her own sun sign.

Knowing that the two actresses share a birthday makes it even more interesting that Johansson is playing Curtis’ mother in “Hitchcock.”  I wonder if they have anything else in common?

Björk

Today’s birthday girl is Björk.

Chart compatibility can be tough to assess.  It’s hard enough putting all the factors in one chart together to provide an accurate portrayal of an individual.  Doing it twice is double the effort.  Determining if those two individuals belong together is exponentially more challenging.

It’s funny, though, that I can look at Björk’s chart and know that the two of us would get along.  We have balance in our outer planets because we’re born within a few weeks of one another.  We have compatible sun, moon and rising signs.  We share the placement of Mercury, and her Venus sits atop my sun.

I’ve had some strained relationships with Scorpio natives in my lifetime, yet there have been a few that have been my kindred spirits.  I can look at Björk’s chart and say with confidence that we would be kindred spirits.  I just wear my weirdness on the inside, Capricorn-style.  Oh, and my singing voice is an acquired taste, too.

Joel McHale

Okay, this is the part where I apologize for getting two weeks behind again.  But this time I’m going to defend myself by mentioning that I’ve finally ended my run with one of the volunteer organizations I’ve been working with for the past six years.  I’ve also started a new job.  This has all happened since Saturn entered Scorpio last month.  For as long as I can remember, I’ve been complaining that I have too many things to do.  I’d like to write more in general, and I’d especially like to write more about astrology.  Still, playing catch-up on a blog that almost no one is reading doesn’t seem prudent.  So I’m going to just move forward by pretending that the past two weeks of November never existed.  Sorry, Scorpios!

Anyway, today’s birthday boy is Joel McHale.  I don’t get a Scorpio vibe from McHale whatsoever.  For that reason, I looked up his chart to discover that he has five planets in fun-loving Sagittarius: the moon, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Neptune.  He also has Mars in Pisces and Saturn in Gemini.  The mostly-mutable nature of his chart with the three goofiest mutable signs represented (only uptight Virgo is left out of the mix) is what defines McHale’s TV persona.  I don’t see a shred of Scorpionic influence, but I also don’t know McHale personally.  Perhaps offscreen he’s a defensive jerk with a cold exterior and a venomous sting.  Or maybe he’s just the worst Scorpio ever.  With an accurate time of birth I could probably determine which scenario is more likely, but for now I’d bet on the latter.

Emma Stone

The birthday girl for November 6 is Emma Stone.

I still haven’t seen “The Amazing Spider-Man” so I really have no idea who Gwen Stacy is.  When I read about the reboot of the orignal “Spider-Man,” I figured that Stone would be playing Mary Jane, the character portrayed by Kirsten Dunst in the previous films.

Dunst is a Taurus, a sign that I often compare with the “girl-next-door” archetype.  She seemed ideally-suited to the role in which she was cast.  I’m curious to know if Stone, a Scorpio native, was also ideally-suited to her role.  I’m also curious to know if Mary Jane and Gwen are supposed to be polar opposites in the “Spider-Man” universe.

I guess I’m going to have to watch the movie to find out!
